60TH ANNIVERSARY OF BARBIE DOLL

  • 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BARBIE DOLL

Wow!  It’s hard to imagine that Barbie has been around 60 years.  Her creator was Ruth Handler who named Barbie, and Ken as well, after her daughter and son.  Her actual birthday was March 9, 1959, and this year is a celebration of this iconic doll.  In 1959, she sold for the whopping sum of $3.00.  What’s really cool about her is that she is as elemental today, maybe even more so, as she was back then.  Barbie has influenced girls and yeah, some boys, around the world to play dress up, to be their own person regardless of race, color or national origin, and even more importantly, she inspired them to believe they could be anything in life they could dream of.  That’s some accomplishment.  She is still quite a collectible.  Check out The Brass Armadillo stores and you’re sure to see many Barbies as well as clothes and toys.
