Wedgwood Black Jasperware Necklace Cleopatra Jewelery

  • Hello everyone!  I was so excited to get started on this next post, I enjoy writing and being creative with words so this is very fun for me,  so lets get started!!

This week we are highlighting Wedgwood CC Jasperware Jasper Jewellery.

We currently only have 2 pieces of Jasper Jewellery in stock but with the second piece which we just purchased about a month ago I was fascinated with how beautifully unique it is.  It is Jasper CC on black with gold and the design is Cleopatra, I have been told the black Jasperware is the most collectable of all of the Jasperware but don't quote me on that!

Wedgwood jewellery was first produced 200 years ago when the first Josiah Wedgwood FRS (1730-1795) introduced his highly prized Jasper body in 1774.  In the late 18th century, small Jasper cameos were produced in a large variety for jewellery, mostly set in cut-steel mounts designed and made by his close friend.

Cameo's made of a fine grain stoneware capable of accepting a wide variety of colors, were decorated with bas-reliefs (a type of sculpture) designed by artists like John Flaxman and William Hackwood.  The jewellery became very popular in the 18th century, and was produced for brooches, chatelaines, pendants, combs, and perfume bottles.

Today it is produced at the Barlaston factory, they now have added earrings, cuff links, and tie tacks.  Most are now mounted in sterling silver.  You can get more information on this piece and our other piece of Jasper Jewellery at our website copy and paste the following link in your browser  http://stores.shop.ebay.com/looknomore4crystalchinaflatware

Next post we will be featuring our handmade jewelry, made from vintage flatware!  We specialize in earrings and pendants, so stay tuned!  Melissa
