Description
For our next show we've journeyed up the mountain from Denver to Evergreen, CO to take a tour of the fabulous Hiwan Homestead Museum. John Steinle, History Education Supervisor of the facilty, is our knowledgeable tour guide. We visit most of the 25 rooms of the main log home + a special exhibit on Jefferson County, Colorado's significant contribution to our effort in World War II. Each room has its story, and John knows them all. It's an extremely interesting look at a mountain home from the 19th century turned now into a great museum, which still houses many of the original furnishings of the house. My favorite pieces are Chief Red Cloud's horn chair. a long oak dining table made by the original owner of the house, the many built-in book & show cases, the 2 octagonal rooms (1 of which is a chapel!), and the many antique pieces of Native American pottery.
